The Lionheart Community

Hi, I’m Charlene. I grew up on the East Coast but headed west after earning my degree in graphic design. I found my home in a small mountain town in the High Sierras where I fell in love with the outdoors and an adventurous lifestyle. In 2000, a snowboarding accident left me paralyzed from the waist down. The road that followed was difficult, but it also helped me discover my purpose.

Through years of recovery and rebuilding, I realized how powerful it is to connect with others who truly understand this journey. In 2020, I started an online support group that grew into a thriving nonprofit called The Lionheart Community. We’ve built something meaningful that’s helping people living with paralysis find support, confidence, and community. It’s now at a point where it’s ready to grow and reach even more people. I'm excited to connect into this strong group of leaders.

I see myself as an emerging leader and entrepreneur who’s eager to keep learning what it takes to run a strong, successful organization. My goal is to keep expanding Lionheart while inspiring others to live fully and fiercely, no matter the obstacles.
